500.00 $ Per job Tell Real Stories: Join a Documentary Project on Addiction & Recovery Richmond
- Location: Richmond, Virginia, United States
Are you a recent graduate or aspiring filmmaker looking to build your portfolio and gain real-world experience in documentary storytelling? I'm seeking a passionate and socially aware videographer/editor based in Northern Virginia, DC, or Maryland to collaborate on a meaningful short documentary with real impact.
About the Project
We’re producing a 30–60 minute documentary that sheds light on the lived experiences of individuals facing addiction across the DMV region. Rather than focusing on statistics or sensational headlines, this film will highlight the humanity behind the issue—while also examining how media narratives and misinformation shape public perception. Together, we’ll explore what true understanding and solutions could look like.
This is an excellent opportunity for film students, recent media grads, or self-taught creators looking to develop their craft while contributing to a socially important project.
What You’ll Be Helping Create
An emotionally compelling short documentary
A visual blend of original footage, archival content, and contextual b-roll
A narrative that challenges common stereotypes around addiction and recovery
Your Role
Capture original footage in the DMV area, including lifestyle/action b-roll
Edit and assemble new and existing content into a cohesive 30–60 minute film
Collaborate on the storyline, pacing, and overall tone
Contribute creative ideas to enhance emotional impact and clarity
Who I’m Looking For
A student, recent graduate, or self-taught filmmaker with interest in video production
Familiarity with filming (digital or analog) and editing software (e.g. Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci)
Strong sense of story and visual flow
Passionate about telling authentic, socially relevant stories
Prior projects or coursework are a plus, but not required
HS Diploma or GED preferred
Compensation
$100–$200 upfront for gear, software, or travel costs
$500 total upon successful delivery of final edit
To Apply
If this sounds like a project you’d be proud to be part of, please send:
A short introduction (your major, year, or background)
Links or samples of past video/editing work (student projects welcome!)
A brief note about why this story matters to you
Let’s create something meaningful together.
